Candies fell from the ceiling, tourists wandered in the Dolby theater, and somebody announced the wrong winner, here are the crazy moments that happened during the 89th Academy Awards.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted The 89th Academy Awards for the first time. He did a great job hosting the ceremony, delivering some hilarious jokes and gimmicks. As predicted, La La Land would win many awards, but it did not get the coveted Best Picture Oscar, despite presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announcing the movie had won it so. It’s fair to say there was plenty of chaos, excitement and emotion during the ceremony. Here are your Oscars 2017 talking points.
Jimmy Kimmel’s hilarious opening monologue
Many people thought it was a bold move to let comedian Jimmy Kimmel host the Oscars. But he did a great job as masters of ceremony, based from his hilarious opening monologue alone. He nailed the humor just right, bashing Donald Trump without getting everyone too down in the dumps, and trolling Matt Damon, his long time frienemy.

Viola Davis’powerful speech left everyone in tears
The Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel joked that Viola Davis should get an Emmy for her acceptance speech upon winning best supporting actress for her performance in “Fences.” And it was a rousing speech, an ode to artists as well as a thank you to, among others, the playwright August Wilson, whose drama was the basis for the film she won for.

Who would have predicted that Suicide Squad, the much-criticised movie, would pick up an award at the Oscars? Not many, but it did just that.. Don’t worry, though, the prize wasn’t for anything to do with the actual plotline or acting. Instead, it won Best Make-Up And Hair Styling. You can’t really argue with that – from The Joker’s neon green hair and chalk white face to Harley Quinn’s red and blue palette, at the very least David Ayer’s film looked great.

Kimmel pranked a group of tourists into meeting real celebrities
One of Kimmel’s between-awards gimmicks involved dropping candies from the ceiling and surprising tourists on a bus tour of Hollywood by fooling them into thinking they were being taken to an exhibition, but leading them into the room in the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars was taking place. The first unsuspecting tourist into the room was a man called Gary, who took the opportunity to have Denzel Washington marry him and his fiancee.

Matt Damon keeps trolled
If you didn’t know, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon has a long time feud with each other. So host Kimmel took the Oscars as an opportunity to “bury the hatchet” between him and Damon. But throughout the night, the host kept on taking jabs at the actor. There was even a moment that Damon tripped Kimmel as he walked down the aisle.
