Flashback Friday: My Experience at Choobi-Choobi

choobi choobi

Here's to some Lingaw-lingaw with some sumptuous shrimp at the metro!

Back in 2013 when I was still working for my first job in an online local news outlet, one of my first assignments was to cover a press conference with the owner of Choobi-Choobi, Stan Tanchan. So friends from the media and blogsphere were in for a hearty treat that day. Mind you, that's one of the perks of working at the media- free stuff and free food despite all the stress, pressure and deadlines to meet.

When eating out, seafood is quite expensive. At Choobi-Choobi, what really impressed everybody was its shrimp worth P350 per pound. The restaurant was one of the first here in Cebu to offer shrimp for cheap and it's quite hefty for 2-4 people. The Shrimp in a Bag comes in five flavors namely Butter Garlic, Sauteed Garlic, Spicy Gata, Choobi Choobi Sauce and the extra spicy Waah! Sauce. Shrimp and garlic is a fail-proof combination especially when sauteed with some butter so the Butter Garlic sauce variant is a try as well as the Spicy Gata.

Lola Pepang's Fried Manok is also a good choice and has been a traditional dish in Tanchan's family. A serving will retail for P300-360. There's also the Crispy Adobong Kanding and Choobi Pata for meat lovers and the Ta Chao Miao or stri-fried snow pea sprouts which offer a refreshing cleanse to your palette. You can also find different types of grilled fish so Choobi-Choobi does not fall short on seafood madness.

But what I especially like about Choobi-Choobi is the fact that the owner prides himself by the fact that every selection found in his menu are made with the freshest organic produce and free-range chickens straight from his farm. So if you want to feast with a conscience, Choobi-Choobi is your best bet!
