A common misconception about baby-carrots is that they are carrots that were harvested before they were fully grown. Some farmers even claim they can grow perfectly-rounded miniature versions of carrots which they market and call as baby carrots for grocery shoppers.

However, nobody can really make “baby carrots”. They’re actually what happens to carrots not pretty enough to sell in stores. These deformed imperfect carrots are peeled and whittled into shape by machines which then churn up what we come to know as baby-carrots, washed and packaged for our snacking convenience.

Most baby-carrots were sold with the purpose of selling more carrots. When imperfectly shaped carrots are discarded from packaging, these carrots are cleaned up, sliced up and turned into the baby-carrots we all love to munch at.
